Earlier, we listed the best defensive players in baseball, according to Bill James’ Runs Saved analysis.  Today, we look at the other side–the worst fielders in baseball. James’s analysis looks at the worst fielders at each position, according to runs given up compared to the average fielder at the position.  This is a compilation of statistics for the past three years. It doesn’t matter any when it comes to fantasy baseball, but we all know that defense is an integral part of the actual game of baseball.  And, when it comes to defensive ability, you tend to get varying opinions.  That’s because defense is not as easily quantifiable as offensive statistics are. 2012 Fantasy Baseball Projection: Yoenis Cespedes

Yoenis Cespedes officially became a member of the Oakland Athletics today after a 20 day wait in the Dominican Republic as he was awaiting his work visa.  Cespedes is suddenly a rich man having signed a 4 year $36 million contract with Oakland. Cespedes will wear number 52 and will likely bat in the 3 or 4 hole for the Athletics.  Cespedes will likely play center field with Coco Crisp, he with the great hair, moving to left field. The 6-foot, 215-pound Cespedes, age 26,  played eight seasons for Granma in the Cuban League, tallying a record 33 home runs to go along with a .333 average and 99 RBIs in 90 games during the 2010-11 campaign. In response to the news this week that Ryan Braun will have his pending 50-game suspension overturned, we have updated our 2012 outfielder rankings for fantasy baseball. Check out our updated rankings by clicking the following link… Top 75 OF rankings for 2012 For those of you who won’t click, Braun is our new no. 1. The 17 players who were ahead of him on our original list have now moved down one spot each in response. Players ranked 19 through 75 went unchanged. On December 10, 2011 – we announced our initial projections of fantasy baseball first round draft picks for 2012 – Braun topped the list. Ask and ye shall receive. Late last night we completed and published our first official 2012 ranking of fantasy baseball outfielders. Check them out by clicking the link below. Top 75 OF rankings for 2012 To quickly summarize them… Our top 3 doesn’t look too much different from everyone else’s – Matt Kemp, Jose Bautista, Justin Upton The Rays have 3 OFers in the top 21 – Zobrist, Jennings, and BJ. Ryan Braun dove from no. 1 on our list in November to no. 18, pending removal of his 50 game suspension. More rankings to come… but we had to keep things moving.
