If you play season-long, daily, or weekly fantasy baseball, you know how important sleeper picks are. Here are some top choices for sleeper picks that can help you in a variety of fantasy baseball leagues, including weekly fantasy baseball. Starters Hisashi Iwakuma, Seattle Mariners After four starts, Iwakuma had a 1.69 ERA, 0.53 WHIP and 18 strikeouts with two walks in 26 2/3 IP.  In his first season in MLB after coming over from Japan, Iwakuma had a 3.16 ERA and 1.28 WHIP, but his numbers improved after he moved from the bullpen to the rotation in July. As a starter, Iwakuma was 8-4 with a 2.65 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. For the season, Iwakuma had a 2.49 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in Seattle vs. a 4.20 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the road. Fantasy Stretch Run Pickup: Trevor Bauer

Posted by on Aug 23, 2012 in 2012 Fantasy Baseball, Fantasy Baseball Sleepers, Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitchers | 0 comments

Like many fantasy baseball sites, we’ve been talking about Trevor Bauer of the Diamondbacks for some time now.  Now, it looks like Bauer will get another chance to show the electric stuff that everybody has been talking about. Bauer had a rude welcome to the MLB.  In 16.1 IP’s, he walked too many (14) and had an ERA above 6.  The WHIP was 1.65 before getting demoted on July 17.  But, Bauer’s move to the MLB was simply too quick for the 21-year-old.  Bauer pitched only 8 games at Triple-A Reno before the D-Backs came calling.  And, Bauer was struggling with a groin injury during his abbreviated 4 starts in Arizona. Bauer’s resume is impressive.  He was the third pick in the draft last year.  He won the Golden Spikes award as the best player in college baseball while...

Is Edwin Encarnacion Finally for Real This Time?

Posted by on May 10, 2012 in 2012 Fantasy Baseball, Fantasy Baseball Infielders, Fantasy Baseball Sleepers | 0 comments

Edwin Encarnacion, the designated hitter for the Toronto Blue Jays who is also qualified in many fantasy leagues as a first baseman and third baseman, has gotten off to a roaring start in fantasy baseball 2012, making him one of the top players in the game right now. In the first month of the season, Edwin Encarnacion hit .322, with 8 homers, 21 RBI, and 4 stolen bases, which makes him a fantasy baseball player’s dream. He was one of the fantasy baseball sleepers this year, because Edwin Encarnacion has not exactly been highly touted. So what is the deal with Edwin Encarnacion? Is he worth keeping for the long haul in fantasy baseball 2012? Or is he one of the fantasy baseball sleepers who may only be hot for the short term? It is hard to say, but...

2012 Best Value Pick: Eric Hosmer

Posted by on Apr 20, 2012 in Fantasy Baseball Infielders, Fantasy Baseball Sleepers | 0 comments

Every year, we come out with our best value pick in fantasy baseball.  Last year, we picked J.J. Hardy of the Baltimore Orioles.  All Hardy, a career .263 hitter, did was hit 30 home runs and drive in 80 for the Orioles–numbers that even exceeded his 2007 and 2008 stats from Milwaukee. In Hardy’s case, our selection was based more on a guy moving from pitching friendly Target Field to Camden Yards.  It was also a case of a healthy J.J. Hardy that did not have the 2010 season we all anticipated.  It was also the case of having seen Hardy in action on my annual Spring Training visit to Florida. None of these same factors had any bearing on our 2012 Best Value Pick of Eric Hosmer of the Kansas City Royals.   Eric Hosmer is one of...

Value picks.  Fantasy baseball is all about buying low and getting value.  Getting players that exceed the typical expectations for that player. Here’s our list of players that we’ll be targeting in our 2012 fantasy baseball draft. HITTERS Pedro Alvarez, Third Base, Pittsburgh Pirates — After a great rookie season when Pedro Alvarez hit 25 homers and drove in 104, he suffered the proverbial sophomore slump and even a mid-season demotion finishing a dismal .201 on the year.  We look for a bounce back year from Alvarez. Elvis Andrus, Shortstop, Texas Rangers —  Elvis Andrus is just 23 and his defense won’t hurt you in fantasy baseball.  Won’t give you any power, but is a consistent 35+ stolen base guy who had a career top .279 average last year. Jason Bourgeois, Outfield, Kansas City Royals — If Jason Bourgeois...
