It doesn’t matter any when it comes to fantasy baseball, but we all know that defense is an integral part of the actual game of baseball.  And, when it comes to defensive ability, you tend to get varying opinions.  That’s because defense is not as easily quantifiable as offensive statistics are. So, when we see somebody like Bill James quantify defensive stats, we have to share them with you.  Here are the Runs Saved leaders over the past three seasons at each defensive position. Top Defensive Players FIRST BASE Daric Barton – 26 Adrian Gonzalez – 18 Albert Pujols – 15 SECOND BASE Ian Kinsler – 46 Ben Zobrist – 43 Aaron Hill – 35 THIRD BASE Adrian Beltre – 48 Evan Longoria – 42 Ryan Zimmerman – 42 SHORTSTOP Brendan Ryan – 65 Yunel Escobar – 37 Troy...

Posted by on Feb 15, 2012 in 2012 Fantasy Baseball, Fantasy Baseball Infielders, Fantasy Baseball Sleepers | 2 comments

Last week, I compiled my fantasy baseball sleepers at the third base position.  And, the more I thought about it, the more I liked my 13th pick of Ty Wigginton of the Phillies. Wigginton can play and he isn’t just coming to Philadelphia to be insurance and play on Sunday afternoons after a late Saturday night game.  With Ryan Howard out early in the year, Wigginton is going to have more opportunity to play.  It may be that Wigginton plays third base and bumps Placido Polanco over to second with Chase Utley moving to first base.  Utley played 21 games at first base during the 2004-05 seasons.  It may also be that Wigginton offers more power than Polanco and the Phillies platoon the two if Wigginton hits well early in the season. One thing is for sure: Polanco, Utley...

Drafting Ramirez & Cabrera Means Third Base Eligibility The biggest news for sleepers at the third base position for the 2012 fantasy baseball season is actually two very well known players who didn’t play a single game at the hot corner last year and are therefore not eligible for your draft at third.  They are Hanley Ramirez of the Miami Marlins and Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers.  Don’t forget about them in your draft.  While you likely can’t draft them at third, they will have qualified for third base after the first two weeks of the season.  Like you needed any extra incentive to draft HanRam or Miggy? So, leaving Hanley Ramirez and Miguel Cabrera out of the mix, here are our top fantasy baseball third basemen sleepers for 2012. Fantasy Baseball Sleepers: Third Base 1.  Brett Lawrie,...
