Is Edwin Encarnacion Finally for Real This Time?

Posted by on May 10, 2012 in 2012 Fantasy Baseball, Fantasy Baseball Infielders, Fantasy Baseball Sleepers | 0 comments

Edwin Encarnacion, the designated hitter for the Toronto Blue Jays who is also qualified in many fantasy leagues as a first baseman and third baseman, has gotten off to a roaring start in fantasy baseball 2012, making him one of the top players in the game right now. In the first month of the season, Edwin Encarnacion hit .322, with 8 homers, 21 RBI, and 4 stolen bases, which makes him a fantasy baseball player’s dream. He was one of the fantasy baseball sleepers this year, because Edwin Encarnacion has not exactly been highly touted. So what is the deal with Edwin Encarnacion? Is he worth keeping for the long haul in fantasy baseball 2012? Or is he one of the fantasy baseball sleepers who may only be hot for the short term? It is hard to say, but...

Bargain Basement Pickups

Here’s some bargain basements pickups for National League teams.  These are guys that are likely available in deep NL-only leagues that show some promise (well at least a little) and might be worthy of a flyer on a free agent pickup.   Eric Young, Jr., OF, Colorado Rockies  — All Eric Young Jr. will do for you is steal bases, but he’s actually quite good at it.  He has 4 SB’s already this year and amassed 27 in just 77 games last year.   Chris Johnson, 3B, Houston Astros  — Johnson is starting every day for the Astros at third.  He doesn’t anything very well for fantasy, but he is hitting .273 on the year so he won’t hurt you at the plate if injury forces him into your lineup at the corner position.   Ruben Tejada, SS, New...

2012 Best Value Pick: Eric Hosmer

Posted by on Apr 20, 2012 in Fantasy Baseball Infielders, Fantasy Baseball Sleepers | 0 comments

Every year, we come out with our best value pick in fantasy baseball.  Last year, we picked J.J. Hardy of the Baltimore Orioles.  All Hardy, a career .263 hitter, did was hit 30 home runs and drive in 80 for the Orioles–numbers that even exceeded his 2007 and 2008 stats from Milwaukee. In Hardy’s case, our selection was based more on a guy moving from pitching friendly Target Field to Camden Yards.  It was also a case of a healthy J.J. Hardy that did not have the 2010 season we all anticipated.  It was also the case of having seen Hardy in action on my annual Spring Training visit to Florida. None of these same factors had any bearing on our 2012 Best Value Pick of Eric Hosmer of the Kansas City Royals.   Eric Hosmer is one of...

Value picks.  Fantasy baseball is all about buying low and getting value.  Getting players that exceed the typical expectations for that player. Here’s our list of players that we’ll be targeting in our 2012 fantasy baseball draft. HITTERS Pedro Alvarez, Third Base, Pittsburgh Pirates — After a great rookie season when Pedro Alvarez hit 25 homers and drove in 104, he suffered the proverbial sophomore slump and even a mid-season demotion finishing a dismal .201 on the year.  We look for a bounce back year from Alvarez. Elvis Andrus, Shortstop, Texas Rangers —  Elvis Andrus is just 23 and his defense won’t hurt you in fantasy baseball.  Won’t give you any power, but is a consistent 35+ stolen base guy who had a career top .279 average last year. Jason Bourgeois, Outfield, Kansas City Royals — If Jason Bourgeois...
