Fantasy Stretch Run Pickup: Trevor Bauer

Trevor Bauer fantasy baseball

SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER: Trevor Bauer's debut was frustrating for the rookie, but he'll get another chance soon.

Like many fantasy baseball sites, we’ve been talking about Trevor Bauer of the Diamondbacks for some time now.  Now, it looks like Bauer will get another chance to show the electric stuff that everybody has been talking about.

Bauer had a rude welcome to the MLB.  In 16.1 IP’s, he walked too many (14) and had an ERA above 6.  The WHIP was 1.65 before getting demoted on July 17.  But, Bauer’s move to the MLB was simply too quick for the 21-year-old.  Bauer pitched only 8 games at Triple-A Reno before the D-Backs came calling.  And, Bauer was struggling with a groin injury during his abbreviated 4 starts in Arizona.

Bauer’s resume is impressive.  He was the third pick in the draft last year.  He won the Golden Spikes award as the best player in college baseball while at UCLA where he notched a 1.25 ERA and 203 strikeouts in 16 starts in 2011.  His career strikeouts in the Pac-10 are second only to a guy named Tim Lincecum.  Given those credentials, picking up Bauer is like a free bonus no deposit bingo game.  Just click here to play.

There was talk this week that Bauer would be recalled to pitch in a day-night doubleheader against the Marlins on Wednesday, but the Diamondbacks opted for Tyler Skaggs instead.  Skaggs was impressive in his debut as Arizona won 3-2.

Bauer will be the next to get a chance as rosters expand in September.  Despite the hype, Bauer is still available in 60% of Yahoo Fantasy Baseball Leagues.  If you’re building for next season, now is the time to add Bauer.  He’ll get his shots down the stretch as the Diamondbacks fight for a wild card spot.

Stay tuned as we await the announcement of when Bauer will return to the Snakes.  Or, you could follow Trevor Bauer on Twitter to find out.
