Anthony Rizzo: How Much Longer Can They Keep Him Down?
If the other managers in your fantasy baseball league are asleep at the wheel, now is the time to pounce on Cubs first baseman prospect Anthony Rizzo.
CUBS WIN, CUBS WIN: Anthony Rizzo won't be wearing an Iowa uniform much longer.
Rizzo passes the marker this weekend on the date that prevents him from becoming a free agent one year earlier leading to speculation that Rizzo will join the Cubs on Monday at Wrigley when they host the Mets.
Manager Dale Sveum, however, is not making any promises to Cubs fans who have little reason to continue watching their beloved Cubbies this year, other than the fact that they always seem to support their hapless club regardless of where they are in the standings.
“He’s obviously coming soon,” said Sveum. “We just don’t have a date on it.”
Yeah, right. Then, why has Bryan LaHair been playing right field recently?
Rizzo continues to tear it up at Triple-A Iowa. Rizzo is hitting .355 on the year with 23 homers and 62 RBI. A left-handed hitter, Rizzo is also hitting .319 against southpaws this year.
Fantasy Baseball Projection: Anthony Rizzo — Expect Anthony Rizzo to be in the lineup on Monday against the Mets. Grab him now on your weekend waiver wire. But, don’t expect Rizzo to be a sure thing. He played in 49 games last year for San Diego and hit .141. Yes, .141. There won’t be a repeat performance this year. The Cubs are already out of the race and it will be a perfect season for Rizzo to find his place in the lineup and on the North Side.
