Jeter BreakUp Comes out of Left Field

Baseball’s Hottest Wives Competition in Turmoil

After three years, and an engagement, Derek Jeter and Charlie’s Angels star Minka Kelly are breaking up.

While many expected the Yankee playboy, 37, to settle down with Kelly, 31, it looks like that just won’t be happening.  The pair quietly parted ways a few weeks ago, shortly after Kelly was in Jeter’s family box just after his historic 3,000th hit on July 9.

Over the years, the handsome Yankees shortstop Jeter has been linked to many of America’s most eligible women.  See the Derek Jeter girlfriend list here.  Jeter was also named to our 2009 Baseball’s Hottest Looking Players by our female readers and votes received on the Fantasy Baseball Dugout Twitter account.

Some sources, according to Fox Sports, said that Jeter was uncomfortable with the revealing photos that Kelly shot after being named Esquire magazine’s “Sexiest Woman Alive.”

Apparently, readers of Fantasy Baseball Dugout must feel the same way.  As of today, Kelly is the leading vote getter for FantasyBaseball Dugout’s 4th Annual Baseball’s Hottest Wives contest.  The Charlie’s Angels star has registered 17.1% of the vote and holds a 3.4% lead over second place Diana Roberts.

Which leads us to a problem.  Rule 7.02 of the Official Baseball’s Hottest Wives rule book states that hot wives that are engaged are eligible for the annual contest.  While some previous entries have later become divorced, it has never occurred that a top contestant broke off a marriage within the contest itself.

After significant debate this morning on Fantasy Baseball Dugout’s weekly appearance on the Spadora on Sports talk radio show, it was decided that Minka Kelly will be able to wear the crown as Baseball’s Hottest Wife if she holds on to her lead.

But, her title will be marked with an asterisk.*
