Defensive Notes from Bill James Handbook

Defensive statistics are the biggest aspect of real baseball that doesn’t show up at all in fantasy baseball.  Here, however, are some interesting notes about defensive baseball from the 2011 Bill James Handbook.


Daric Barton hit .273 with 10 homers, but his real value was with the glove.

The Fielding Bible Awards are given to the best defensive player at each position.  Ten experts vote and the following players were ranked as the top fielders in all of MLB at their positions:

  • Brett Gardner (NYY) LF
