Final WBC Fantasy Baseball Cheat Sheet

Daisuke Matsuzaka world baseball classicBelow is our final list of the top three MLB hitters and pitchers currently participating in the World Baseball Classic in each standard 5×5 fantasy baseball category. In case you hadn’t heard, Japan won last night 5-3 in 10 innings over Korea. Daisuke Matsuzaka was named WBC MVP for the second time.

While it is still tough to gauge how players in the WBC benefit from playing, we’ve come up with a very general rule of thumb for fantasy baseball that seems to make sense:

  • Upgrade hitters in your draft who are hitting well because they are facing a higher level of pitching earlier in the season, getting them in “game” shape faster.
  • Downgrade pitchers a few spots who participate because they are throwing harder and more innings than they normally would be this time of year.

Let us know what you think about these tips, generally speaking. Are we way off base here? The stats are below. Check out our 2009 fantasy baseball cheat sheet.
