Shea-mful : Mets Choke Again
The Mets have done it again in fitting fashion, done in by its bullpen, against a team which was merely finishing out the season.
Another September Choke Attack
For the second straight year, the Mets have folded in September. The Mets lost 12 of 17 in 2007 to end the season and blow a 7 game lead over the Phillies. This year, the Mets played better, winning 7 of its last 17, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the surging Phillies who won 13 of their last 17 contests. Had the Mets held the 7 game lead this year, the Phillies would have only been able to make up 6 of them and would have had to settle for the wild card spot.
For some reason, the current Mets play like the 62 Mets (40-120-1) in September. Without Billy Wagner, the Mets bullpen was highly suspect and it did not pitch well in any key ballgames down the stretch. Obviously, the Mets need more help in the bullpen in the offseason or history will repeat itself for a third consecutive season of losing a playoff position on the final day of the season.
Farewell to Shea
Mets dignataries were on hand. Greats such as Dwight Gooden and Tom Seaver showed up in what might have felt more like a funeral than a celebration as the hated Phillies were dancing at the Bank.
Fantasy Baseball Dugout Tip for 2009 —Choose the opposing pitchers in September when they face the Muts. It could elevate you into a playoff spot. Seriously.
