Chase Headley’s 2008 Fantasy Baseball Debut
Chase Headley, the top prospect in the San Diego Padres organization, made his return to the Major Leagues on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium against the New York Yankees (is there a better way to make your MLB debut?).
Headley went 2-4 in his season debut, with two singles and two strikeouts. Last season in 8 games and 18 at-bats, Headley had 4 hits, 1 run scored, 1 extra base hit (a double), and 2 walks. Because of Headley’s call up, Justin Huber (who I’ve never heard of), has been optioned to Triple-A Portland.
All fantasy baseball owners are looking for the next stud prospect to help their team, and early projections put Headley in the Evan Longoria category – take a chance if you have the roster space, but don’t rush and consider him a must-add.
Headley hit hitting .305 with 13 homeruns and 40 RBI for Portland and was the Texas League Player of the Year in 2007 with a .330 average. Not only will he play left field, he could also see some time at third base in place of Kevin Kouzmanoff.
