Monday night, Ken Griffey, Jr. became the sixth player in Major League history to hit 600 career homeruns.
In the first inning of last night’s game against the Florida Marlins, Griffey went yard for the 600th time off lefty Mark Hendrickson on a 3-1 pitch. He parked the pitch for in the right field bleachers, like he’s done so many times before, 413 feet away from home plate. The homer drove in two runs.
Junior called his shot – kinda. He told Reds coach Dusty Baker and teammate Jerry Hairston he would hit no. 600 on Sunday.
