Fantasy Baseball Ace Jake Peavy On DL

Jake Peavy, Pitcher, San Diego Padres. The San Diego Padres have been killing fantasy owners all season with their lack of run support for their A-list pitching staff. This week, their team’s overall fantasy value took a major hit when fantasy baseball ace Jake Peavy landed on the 15-day DL.

On the year, Peavy was 4-3 with a 2.91 ERA with 60 strikeouts and 20 walks in 58.7 innings of work. His season WHIP is 1.16. Despite his great numbers, Peavy has lost three of his last four starts.

Peavy was placed on the DL retroactive to May 15, so he is eligible to take the mound on May 30 at AT&T Park against the San Francisco Giants. There is no structural damage, so at best he will miss only two starts. Considering Peavy was the 2007 Fantasy Baseball Cy Young winner, FBD will definitely keep you posted as necessary.

Wilfredo Ledezma is replacing Peavy in the rotation. With the Padres’ current status as worst team in Major League Baseball, and Ledezma’s status as the team’s least valuable pitcher, you might be better off replacing Peavy with Ballpark Bob on your roster. Search your league’s waiver wire for a player like Claudio Vargas, Mark Hendrickson, or even Greg Maddux before even thinking about adding Ledezma.
