Evan Longoria’s Return To Fantasy Baseball
In the latest chapter of fantasy baseball rookie savior news, Evan Longoria has been called up to join the Tampa Bay Rays from the AAA class Durham Bulls. In the business of the big league, everyone seems to win here: Longoria gets to the bigs early in the season, and the Rays push his free agency eligibility back to 2014.
The biggest loser here is former Rays hot corner Willy Aybar, who lands on the 15-day DL and will likely never be the everyday starter at third for the Rays again.
Evan Longoria will be the hottest add in fantasy baseball week 3, and if you are in a league with daily lineup changes, he’s probably already off the waiver wire. CBS Sportsline is claiming he is owned in only 39% of leagues, and Yahoo! claims he’s owned in 48% of leagues. If you are looking for a third baseman with tons of potential, then take a chance on Longoria. A lot of fantasy baseball managers bailed on him after he got the early season demotion (BatBoy BeeZee included), but his potential is too hard to pass up.
If you are in a keeper league and Longoria is available, you must go get him immediately. No question.
For owners who play in auction-based leagues, he can probably be bought for around $5.00 (his current value on Rotohog.com is $5.12). That seems like a bargain based on his potential to be 2008’s Ryan Braun.
FBD is only going to recommend this so many times – if Longoria is available in your league, pick him up.
